Rohtak, April 3
The Rohtak district police- as per the directions of Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia- on Thursday conducted a drive to make school students and general public aware about how cyber crime is committed and how to check the activities of cyber criminals. According to the district police spokesman, a team of Cyber Help Desk established in the police station located in Rohtak district made the public aware about cyber crime. Incharge, Police Station Arya Nagar, Inspector Sulendra conducted the public awareness programme in a park while the people who came to the City Police Station were told about cyber crime and how to avoid it. Apart from this, the teams of other police stations made the public aware at places, including bus stand, market places, Saini College, Cricket Academy and some private educational institutions.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Y.V.R. Shashi Shekhar said that in this era of digital revolution, cyber criminals are adopting new ways of committing cyber crime. Cyber criminals lure people into their trap by offering them the to earn money easily. “They get money deposited in their account and as long as the money is in the hundreds, they return it after adding commission. But as soon as the amount goes into thousands, the fraudsters start cheating them,” the ASP said.
The police team explained to the people the method of cheating. A link is sent with the message of earning money in an easy way. When the link is clicked, a message is received on WhatsApp. Then a link is sent on his WhatsApp and he/she is encouraged to register by clicking on it. As soon as the person registers, Rs 100 is sent to his account. After that, he is told that if he completes the tasks in future, he will get money as commission. When the person sends more money to the account of the fraudsters, more money comes to his account. In this way, in the beginning, the fraudsters send money to him, but later a game of cheating is played with him and lakhs of rupees are swindled from his account.
Further, students were told to use two-step factor authentication on their mail ID and social media accounts. Common citizens and students should not accept any unknown video call on WhatsApp. Stating that some students misuse many social media accounts by creating IDs in different names and in the name of some other person, the police said that using an account by creating a fake ID is a punishable offence and action is taken against the accused as per the rules, due to which the future of the student can also be spoiled. “If any kind of cyber fraud happens despite being careful or vigilant, do not panic and immediately complain to the cyber help desk number 1930, dial 112 or inform your bank and nearest police station and register your complaint on the cyber crime portal cybercrime.gov.in,” the police said.
