Frequent Power Cuts in Humid Weather and Soaring Inflation Causing Distress to Common People

Bhiwani, June 24:Demanding a rollback of the quietly implemented hike in electricity rates, Haryana Pradesh Congress Udyog Cell Chairman Ashok Buwaniwala has said that the BJP has increased electricity tariffs up to four times in one go. He claimed that families who earlier paid electricity bills in the range of ₹900 to ₹1,000 are now receiving bills of ₹4,000 to ₹5,000.
In a press release issued today, he stated that the extreme heat and humidity, coupled with frequent power cuts and the burden of inflation, have left the common man in distress. Since the BJP came to power, the common man has been continuously crushed under a double burden. The situation across the state is such that people are crying out due to the lack of basic amenities like electricity and water.Buwaniwala said that the increase in electricity rates has led to people receiving heavy bills. The electricity corporation has also added a fixed charge of ₹75 per kilowatt. This means that for a 10 kW connection, consumers now have to pay an additional ₹750 per month. Earlier, the rates were slab-based, ranging from ₹2.50 to ₹6.30 per unit for consumption above 50 units. Now, for loads above 5 kW, the charge is between ₹6.50 and ₹7.50 per unit. Additionally, there has been a hike of 20 to 40 paise per unit across various slabs. Furthermore, changes have been made in the slabs defined for different consumer categories.
These increased tariffs were quietly implemented starting April 1.The Congress leader said that during the Congress tenure, four new power plants and one nuclear power plant were established in the state. However, under the BJP regime, not a single new unit of power production has been added. Despite this, the government has been increasing electricity rates continuously for the past 10 years.
He highlighted that during the Congress rule, electricity bills worth ₹1,600 crore for common consumers were waived. In contrast, the BJP, instead of providing any such relief, is focused on burdening people with increased rates and unnecessary charges, thereby cutting deep into their pockets.
