Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Anil Vij said that construction of the 100-bedded building at the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital has resumed. This building will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and will be designed like a Critical Care Unit (CCU) to provide top-tier treatment to patients. With this addition, the capacity of the hospital will double from 100 to 200 beds. Additionally, the building has been designed to minimize infection risk for regular patients.
Vij said that construction was earlier halted due to a case pending in the Hon’ble High Court, followed by arbitration proceedings. Now, after re-tendering, the remaining work will be completed at a cost of Rs. 14.79 crores.
He added that with the addition of this new 100-bedded building, the total capacity of the Civil Hospital will be 200 beds. This will significantly benefit patients and their caregivers. Currently, the hospital has only 100 beds, but due to the increasing number of patients, the shortage of beds has become apparent, prompting the construction of the new building.
The Seven-Storey Building Will Include These Facilities
Two Basement Floors: The new building will have a total of seven floors, including two basement levels. One basement floor will be used for vehicle parking, and the other will house an air conditioning plant and a gas plant.
Ground Floor: Will include a registration-cum-reception center, emergency services, toilets, and other essential amenities.
First Floor: Will house emergency wards with 28 beds.
Second Floor: Will feature an Infectious Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Third Floor: Will have an Infectious Operation Theater (OT), Super Specialist OT, and patient wards.
Fourth Floor: Will also include Infectious OT, Super Specialist OT and wards, along with a life-saving Critical Care Unit (CCU).
It is noteworthy that the 100-bedded building is being developed specifically as a Critical Care Unit to provide advanced medical support to patients in serious or emergency conditions. Critical care includes continuous monitoring of a patient’s condition, availability of essential medicines and equipment and timely medical decisions based on the patient’s status.
In the CCU, close attention is paid to vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and other critical indicators. This allows doctors to quickly identify any abnormalities and begin immediate treatment. The CCU will offer oxygen support, medication management, emergency procedures, post-care and recovery facilities. It will also have dedicated wards and facilities for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. The building is designed in a way that regular patients are not exposed to infection risks.
